At Serene Dentistry in Ventura, California, we provide an array of restorative dental treatments to address issues that negatively affect our patients' smiles. Two of the most common issues are damaged or missing teeth. We frequently address these issues using dental crowns and dental bridges.
A crown is a tooth colored and shaped dental restoration. It’s hollow inside, so it’s ideal for completely covering the visible portion of a damaged, chipped, or cracked natural tooth. When a patient receives a dental implant or has a root canal, they also receive a crown.
Dr. Klara N. Efner shaves down the tooth so it can accommodate the crown. After preparing the tooth, she uses dental cement to permanently attach the dental prosthesis to the patient’s tooth.
This restorative prosthetic has one or two anchors that attach to teeth or dental implants on either side. A bridge replaces several missing teeth on the same arch.
If a patient receives dental implants, a bridge can replace up to an entire arch of teeth. At Serene Dentistry, we custom-design your bridge so it looks natural and fits comfortably, which ensures you have a natural bite.
The main difference between these bridges is how the dentist affixes them to the teeth.
1. The Cantilever Bridge – This dental bridge has one anchor because the dentist places it at the end of an arch.
2. Traditional Dental Bridge – The neighboring natural teeth receive dental crowns so they can anchor this bridge.
3. Maryland Bonded Bridge – This bridge also attaches to its neighboring teeth, but usually with a more conservative partial preparation of the adjacent tooth vs a full crown. This is normally reserved for a single missing tooth in the front.
4. Implant-Supported Bridge – Dental implants anchor this bridge.
Worn dentition refers to the pathological loss of tooth structure for reasons other than decay. At Serene Dentistry, Dr. Efner uses crowns partial crowns to restore teeth damaged by acid erosion or severe wear (attrition), which is usually a result of grinding your teeth at night.
Dr. Klara N. Efner’s treatment recommendation depends on your oral health, needs, goals, and treatment preferences. She may recommend a combination of dental crowns and bridges.
If you are missing teeth, your other teeth will eventually shift. This leads to a disruption in your chewing pattern, affecting the overall aesthetics and function of your mouth. If you’re not interested in dental implants to replace missing teeth, a dental bridge might be a good fit for you.
During your initial consultation, Dr. Klara N. Efner examines your teeth and gums. She wants to know what your treatment goals are. During this appointment, she will take diagnostic images.
Once Dr. Efner reviews your images and examines your mouth, she'll recommend the treatments that she believes will help you achieve your goals.
At Serene Dentistry, you’ll find dental professionals with a caring demeanor and a gentle touch. We want your visits to be enjoyable, which is why our office has a warm, friendly atmosphere.
