Our approach to supporting oral hygiene at home, from the comfort of our office, is far from ordinary
Serene Dentistry Ventura is built on fundamental characteristics of service – the type of commitment and dedication to guest experience and quality of care that one might expect from a Michelin-starred restaurant or a 5-star resort. Led by Dr. Klara N. Efner, our team in Ventura, California, has brought that exceptional hospitality into professional preventative and general dentistry services. Some of the aspects of this philosophy are characterized by listening more than telling or directing, genuinely getting to know each patient as an individual with their unique needs and preferences. We can then make optimal hygiene recommendations in partnership with you, the patient!
Oral hygiene “basics,” delivered in a not-so-basic way
Poor oral hygiene or inadequate homecare are key risk factors of the leading causes of eventual tooth loss: dental decay and periodontal (gum) disease. Naturally, good oral hygiene is a protective factor supporting the teeth’ health and surrounding soft tissues and bone. Adequate oral care requires a combination of a consistent and thorough cleaning at home and in our office. While the specific products and techniques that each patient uses vary, all of our patient-partners will benefit from:
- Brushing at least two times each day
- Brushing not only the teeth but the gums, tongue, and other areas that harbor bacteria and plaque
- Flossing daily
- Maintaining professional cleanings at our office at least once every six months.
Professional care is a “must,” even for patients who are diligent about brushing and flossing daily. Our dental hygienists are specially trained and have access to tools to remove stubborn plaque and tartar deposits build-up that cannot be lifted with standard toothbrushes and cleaning techniques. In doing so, we reduce the risks of your developing tooth decay or gum disease. Dr. Efner’s comprehensive evaluation further complements cleanings. She can spot problems that would otherwise remain hidden until they produce symptoms such as pain, bleeding, and swelling. By the time these symptoms arise, irreversible damage to your teeth, gums, and other tissues may have already been done. Regular check-ups also present good opportunities for us to integrate other preventive professional services into your routine, which are only available at the dentist’s office.
Moreover, Dr. Efner accounts for and acts on the oral health-whole body connection. She appreciates that the mouth does not exist in isolation from the rest of the body – it both reflects and affects systemic health and overall wellbeing. For this reason, she offers opportunities to enhance general wellness that cannot be found at other dentist’s offices; for instance, as an accomplished yoga instructor, our patients benefit from weekly Saturday yoga classes – free of charge!
